Family Tree SoftwareOnce you have begun researching your family history, you will want a simple and accurate way of storing and recording the information. It is virtually impossible to do this by hand, especially if your family tree includes multiple marriages or children and siblings! It's very easy to get lost after a couple of generations as your tree will become increasingly complicated the further back you go. There are plenty of software packages available for plotting your family tree, but we recommend Family Tree Maker 2006.  
Please be aware that there is an updated version of this software called Family Tree Maker 2008. We would not recommend this version as it departs from the relatively simple inputting and navigation format of the previous versions. (This is definitely an example of, "if it 'ain't broke, don't fix it!") The good news is that FTM 2006 is far cheaper than 2008! FTM 2006 is also re-branded as "GSP Who do you think you are?" ? it's the same software, just in a different case!
